PURPOSE: The position of Public Advocate, per SCC 2.11.040, is appointed by a majority of the full county council, following the County Executive’s nomination of two individuals who meet the qualifications as detailed in SCC 2.11.060 <https://snohomish.county.codes/SCC/2.11.060>.
BACKGROUND: The Office of Public Advocate will be vacated November 15, 2022, upon the retirement of current Public Advocate Jill McKinnie. The Executive Office began recruiting for nominations for the position at the end of June 2022. After a team of Subject Matter Experts and Executive Leadership reviewed 55 applications and supporting documentation and selected candidates to move forward for review and interview by Executive Dave Somers and Deputy Executive Eric Parks. Executive Somers made the final selection of two candidates to recommend to Council. The Public Advocate is appointed for terms that expire one year following the date of original appointment and then expire two years following the date of each reappointment by the county council.
