PURPOSE: Request approval for SWAC appointment

BACKGROUND: The Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) helps the Solid Waste division develop policies to support the successful implementation of Washington's solid waste laws and the State Solid and Hazardous Waste Plan. Additionally, SWAC further reviews and recommends changes to the Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan. The committee is composed of local government officials, citizens, and representatives of the business community. The Snohomish County SWAC needs to reappoint several open positions. The attached memo recommends individuals for appointment. The Snohomish County SWAC is comprised of representatives of municipalities, citizens, and industry, and assists in the development of programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal with recommendation of adoption to the County Council. Terms of office for regular members is a two-year period from the date of appointment. The following individual served on Snohomish County Solid Waste's SWAC as a Voting member and is being recommended for a re-appointment. Kimberly McCann is the Senior Account Executive - Public Sector for Waste Management. She will represent the Commercial Recyclers as a Voting member. Positions for Council District 1, 2, and 3 and several Cities are currently vacant. Staff will continue to recruit for those vacancies.
