ITEM TITLE:
Title
Ordinance 24-012, approving grant agreement with Darrington School District to support prevention of and treatment for substance use disorders
body
DEPARTMENT: Health

ORIGINATOR: Rhonda Smids-Osborne

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Lacey Harper 1/31/24

PURPOSE: To provide funds to Darrington School District as a subrecipient under the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) to support prevention or treatment for substance use disorders.

BACKGROUND: In June 2019, the Health District was chosen as a recipient of the HRSA RCORP grant which is now in its fourth year of the implementation phase. The project specifically serves the two federally qualifying rural census tracts in Snohomish County. This grant has been transferred to the Health Department, who along with a consortium of community partners, is working towards the implementation of strategies that increases access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services and support for individuals with opioid-use disorder and their families. This subrecipient agreement would allow the Darrington School District to hire a behavioral health specialist term-limited positions and provide training for staff on evidence-based strategies to help with children's self-regulation and reinforce pro-social behavior.
