ITEM TITLE:

Title

Amended Ordinance 23-070, approving agreement with the State of Minnesota for the purchase of Naloxone

body

DEPARTMENT:  Health

ORIGINATOR:  Sarah de Jong

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Approved by Lacey Harper 6/30/23

PURPOSE: This agreement with the State of Minnesota would allow for the purchase of naloxone as part of the Health Department’s efforts to reduce the mortality rate of opioid overdoses and continue strategic partnerships with community organizations.

BACKGROUND: The Snohomish County Health Department partners with first responders, Tribal governments, police and fire departments, and community organizations to provide naloxone and train them how to use it correctly as they serve populations with opioid use disorder or individuals at risk of an opioid overdose. The naloxone purchases were made using grant and general funds set aside specifically for this body of work. The Health Department wishes to continue and expand these partnerships to reduce the mortality rate of opioid overdoses within Snohomish County. This contract with the State of Minnesota would allow the Health Department to purchase naloxone through the Minnesota Multistate Contract Alliance for Pharmacy (MMCAP) Infuse organization.
