PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of James Beatty to the Snohomish County Veterans Assistance Fund Executive Board

BACKGROUND: The Snohomish County Veterans Assistance Fund Executive Board was established by Ordinance 95-088, effective November 11, 1995, to advise the County on matters relating to veterans under RCW 73.08. The purpose of the Veterans Assistance Fund (VAF) is to provide emergency assistance to honorably discharged veterans and eligible dependents. Vouchers are provided for basic necessities including food, rent, utilities and other emergency needs. The Veterans Assistance Fund Executive Board is comprised of members of nationally recognized veterans' service organizations or the veterans' community at large. Board members are recommended by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council pursuant to Chapter 2.03 of the Snohomish County Code. Members serve four-year terms and may not serve more than three consecutive terms.

The following member is seeking appointment to the Veterans Assistance Fund Executive Board:

James Beatty, residing in Council District 5, is seeking appointment to represent the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Beatty lives in Everett and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He is very active in the community, is a lifetime member of the VFW, and would be a valuable asset to the Snohomish County Veterans Assistance Fund Executive Board. This will be James Beatty's first term on the Board
