Title

Motion 23-072, appointing Robert McCarty of Sultan to the Noxious Weed Control Board

body

DEPARTMENT:  Conservation and Natural Resources

ORIGINATOR:  Geraldine Saw

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Lacey Harper 2/8/23

PURPOSE: To fill a vacancy on the Noxious Weed Control Board in District 5.

BACKGROUND: The Noxious Weed Control Board was created to adopt rules and regulations necessary for an effective county weed control and eradication program. It is made up of five members, each of whom represents a specific geographic Weed Control District, and an at-large ex-officio member. Mr. McCarty submitted an application to be a member of The Noxious Weed Control Board. He lives in Sultan, which is in District 5.  Mr. McCarty graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Range Management. He works part time at Coastal Farm and Ranch in Monroe. He has previously served two terms as Sultan City Council Position 1. He is particularly interested in invasive Japanese knotweed control along the river and has worked on the water trails system. Currently, he is working with the City of Sultan to form a new invasive knotweed policy. Mr. McCarty’s commitment to his community and the ecological stewardship makes Robert an excellent Noxious Weed Control Board candidate.  Pursuant to SCC 2.030.030, County Executive recommends the appointment of Mr. McCarty to a 4-year term expiring 12/31/2026.
