Title
Receiving the Land Conservation Initiative Quarterly Report - September 30, 2022
body
DEPARTMENT: Conservation & Natural Resources
ORIGINATOR: Sharon Swan
EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Approved by Lacey Harper 10/20/22
PURPOSE: Submit quarterly report related to the Land Conservation Initiative as requested by budget note five
BACKGROUND: Snohomish County has a history of completing and supporting land acquisition for the purposes of providing parks, habitat, agricultural, forest and open space values. A comprehensive, strategic approach to future property rights acquisition is sought which will maximize preservation of important properties and include strategies for funding and long-term operation and maintenance. This comprehensive approach will include development of a Strategic Land Acquisition and Management Plan, Transfer of Develop Rights program, as well as a Healthy Forest Forestry program. These three efforts together comprise Snohomish County’s Land Conservation Initiative (LCI). King County has already completed a process similar to what is envisioned for Snohomish County and their Land Conservation Initiative will serve as a model for Snohomish County’s efforts.
