PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Tony Lazaro to the Snohomish County Council on Aging.
BACKGROUND: The Snohomish County Council on Aging exists to advise, assist, and advocate for older persons and those adults with disabilities in Snohomish County by keeping the County Executive and other elected officials apprised of the concerns and needs of the older populations; and assisting and guiding the work of the Long Term Care and Aging group in fulfilling its stated missions, supporting ongoing evaluation of program services, and policy involved in the implementation of the Snohomish County Area Plan on Aging.
Tony Lazaro is a veteran of the Indian Navy. After his retirement from the Indian Navy, he emigrated to the United States, where he entered academia, and earned a PhD in Engineering. Over the past near 30 years, Mr. Lazaro had been a professor of Engineering and recently retired as the Dean of Engineering at St. Martin’s University. In his retirement, Mr. Lazaro has delved into community engagement work, sitting on the Board of Directors for the Edmonds Senior Center. Previously, Tony also served on the Board of Directors for the South Sound Senior Center in Olympia. Tony Lazaro resides in Council District #3 and is applying for an initial three-year term commencing upon appointment.
Mr. Lazaro does not serve on any other county boards or commissions.
