PURPOSE: Approval of an Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 22-026 extending time to accept the nonexclusive cable franchise granted to Comcast Washington to Comcast Cable Communications, LLC and Comcast Cable Communications Management, LLC, jointly and severally.
BACKGROUND: On July 13, 2022, the Snohomish County Council adopted Ordinance No. 22-026, approving the grant of a nonexclusive cable franchise to Comcast Cable Communications, LLC and Comcast Cable Communications Management, LLC, jointly and severely ("Comcast"), authorizing the use of public rights-of-way for the installation and maintenance of their cable system. The approved cable franchise requires Comcast to accept the franchise by filing a written acceptance and taking other actions specified therein within 60 days after the passage and approval of the Franchise Ordinance. Comcast has requested an extension of time in order to complete the acceptance requirements under the approved cable franchise. If approved, this ordinance will grant an additional 60 days for Comcast to accept the franchise ordinance, provide payment of fees and allow time for the County to record the franchise.
