PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Monica Best-Wilson to the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.
BACKGROUND: The Children’s Commission was created to advise the County on “issues of health, safety and social services for infants, young children and youth in the community.” It is composed of 25 members, including at least two youth commissioners. Three members are appointed from each council district, while the remaining ten at-large appointees may reside anywhere within the county. Commissioners serve four-year terms with the exception of youth commissioners, who serve one-year terms. Commissioners may not serve more than three consecutive terms. The Snohomish County Children’s Commission currently has 8 members and 17 vacancies.
• Ms. Best-Wilson resides in Council District 1
• Ms. Best-Wilson is currently the Education Collaborative Coordinator working with Housing Hope to identify and remove systemic barriers for families with young children
• Ms. Best-Wilson works statewide to build and strengthen access to youth development programs
• Ms. Best-Wilson is not a member of any other County committee or council
• Ms. Best-Wilson is recommended for an initial four-year term upon appointment
