PURPOSE: To recommend the reappointment of Courtney Wooten to the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.
BACKGROUND: The Children’s Commission was created to advise the County on “issues of health, safety and social services for infants, young children and youth in the community.” It is composed of 25 members, including at least two youth commissioners. Three members are appointed from each council district, while the remaining ten at-large appointees may reside anywhere within the county. Commissioners serve four-year terms with the exception of youth commissioners, who serve one-year terms. Commissioners may not serve more than three consecutive terms. The Snohomish County Children’s Commission currently has 8 members and 17 vacancies.
• Ms. Wooten resides in Council District 3
• Ms. Wooten is a self-employed consultant specializing in education and equity
• Ms. Wooten has a needed perspective on the Commission with current and ongoing connections with schools and Black/multiracial populations
• Ms. Wooten is not a member of any other County committee or council
• Ms. Wooten is recommended for a reappointment for a second four-year term on appointment
