PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Ashvi Shah to the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.
BACKGROUND: The Children’s Commission was created to advise the County on “issues of health, safety and social services for infants, young children and youth in the community.” It is composed of 25 members, including at least two youth commissioners. Three members are appointed from each council district, while the remaining ten at-large appointees may reside anywhere within the county. Commissioners serve four-year terms with the exception of youth commissioners, who serve one-year terms. Commissioners may not serve more than three consecutive terms. The Snohomish County Children’s Commission currently has 8 members and 17 vacancies.
• Ms. Shah resides in Council District 4
• Ms. Shah is currently a high school honors student
• Ms. Shah interns as a health policy advocate on children’s wellness
• Ms. Shah volunteers on issues of significance to the Indian American Community
• Ms. Shah is not a member of any other County committee or council
• Ms. Shah is recommended for an initial one-year term upon appointment
