ITEM TITLE:

Title

Motion 22-135, approving Release and Indemnity Agreement for Transfer of Sheriff’s Office K9-Luuk

body

DEPARTMENT:  Sheriff’s Office

ORIGINATOR:  Chief Norm Link

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  APPROVE - Ken Klein

PURPOSE: Transfer of Police Service Dog-Luuk

BACKGROUND: The Sheriff’s Office uses trained police dogs to assist in fulfilling its mission. From time to time, these dogs live past their useful life as police K-9s and are retired. Sometimes, County employees, as in this case, offer to accept the dog and be responsible for its care, condition and actions after it is delivered. This agreement provides for liability protection for the County after the sale or transfer. Since K-9 Luuk is considered personal property of the County, and there is no provision in the County Code that allows sale or transfer of personal property to a County employee, this agreement must be approved by Council.
