PURPOSE: To Jill McKinnie to a two-year term as Snohomish County’s public advocate
BACKGROUND: Chapter 2.11 of the Snohomish County Code establishes the Office of the Public Advocate and the position of public advocate. The person serving in this role serves at the appointment by the County Council for a 2-year term. There is not a limit to the number of terms that a person may serve as the county’s public advocate. Jill McKinnie formerly served as Snohomish County’s ombuds until the Office of the Public Advocate replaced the Office of the Ombuds. She has since served as the county’s public advocate and has been reappointed to serve in this role by Motion 17-378 and Motion 19-404. The current term in which Ms. McKinnie is serving expires on December 31, 2021. The proposed motion would appointment Ms. McKinnie to a 2-year term to commence on January 1, 2022 and expire on December 31, 2023.
