ITEM TITLE:
Title
Motion 21-167, appointing Dale Kolbe of Snohomish to District 5 of the Noxious Weed Control Board
body
DEPARTMENT: Public Works

ORIGINATOR: Geraldine Saw

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Approve

PURPOSE: To fill a vacancy on the Noxious Weed Control Board in District 5.

BACKGROUND: The Noxious Weed Control Board was created to adopt rules and regulations necessary for an effective county weed control and eradication program. It is made up of five members, each of whom represents a specific geographic Weed Control District, and an at-large ex-officio member. Long-time member, George Ohlsen who represented District 5 has retired. Dale Kolbe has volunteered to replace the District 5 vacant position. Ms. Kolbe was a Habitat Steward for Snohomish County Parks between 2001-2020. She also worked as a seasonal for the Snohomish County Noxious Weed Board between 1995-2001. The combination of a degree in Environmental Conservation Technology and her field experience gave her skills in noxious weed identification, local knowledge and expertise in noxious weed management. Last year, she retired after serving over two decades with the county. Retirement allows her to spend more time cultivating her vegetable garden. Ms. Kolbe's long-term commitment to conservation and noxious weed control, that comes from her working experience, makes Dale an excellent Noxious Weed Control Board candidate. Pursuant to SCC 2.030.030, County Executive recommends the appointment of Ms. Kolbe to a 4-year term expiring 12/31/2024.
