PURPOSE: Authorize County Executive to enter into the attached agreement with the Stillaguamish Tribe
BACKGROUND: The Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney and the Stillaguamish Tribal Board of Directors require a Cooperative Law Enforcement Agreement for clarification of law enforcement jurisdiction, authority, and interoperability between the two entities. This agreement articulates and allows for consistent law enforcement service to tribal and non-tribal citizens, both on and off tribal trust lands. The agreement also establishes protocols for cross commissioning of deputy sheriffs from Snohomish County and police officers from the Stillaguamish Tribal Police Department. This agreement has been renewed since approximately 2007. This new agreement is in place until March 31, 2022 and may be renewed via letter between the Sheriff and Stillaguamish Tribal Chief of Police for five (5) additional one (1) year terms.
