PURPOSE: Motion to establish animal redemption and relinquish fees
BACKGROUND: SCC 9.12.110 and SCC 9.12.055 authorizes the Auditor to establish animal redemption and relinquish fees to cover costs associated with the impoundment and surrendering of animals. Cost recovery includes the care and boarding of the animal ($250 per animal charge from the contracted shelter) in addition to apprehension and transportation costs if an Animal Control Officer impounded the stray animal. The shelter works with pet owners to find alternatives to surrendering animals to the shelter as there are other resources for residents to rehome dogs/cats.
