ITEM TITLE:

Title

Ordinance 26-001, relating to the meeting requirements of the Ethics Commission and amending SCC 2.50.100

body

DEPARTMENT:  Council

ORIGINATOR:  Nicole Gorle

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  N/A

PURPOSE: Amend meeting frequency.

BACKGROUND: The Snohomish County Ethics Commission, established through SCC 2.50.080-115, is responsible for reviewing complaints against county employees who violate the County’s Code of Ethics under SCC 2.50. When complaints are received, the Chair of the commission reviews them for validity and either moves them to the full body for action or dismisses them. Over the last twenty years, one complaint has been found valid and advanced to the full body for consideration. Regardless of the low volume of complaints, County Code currently requires the Commission to meet twice a year. On December 5, 2025, the commission met and unanimously recommended the ordinance before you here. This ordinance would amend the meeting frequency required in code to one meeting annually, taking place in January. Should complaints be filed that need to be addressed after the first required meeting of the year, the code would allow for additional meetings to be scheduled as needed.
