PURPOSE: To appoint a Judge to a vacancy in the Cascade Electoral District
BACKGROUND: The Adopted 2023 Budget, approved by Ordinance 22-059, included an appropriation of six months of funding a new District Court Judge in the Snohomish County District Court, Cascade Division. The Governor signed Senate Bill 5003 on March 30, 2023 approving the additional judge and amending RCW 3.34.010. On April 26, 2023, Snohomish County Council adopted Ordinance 23-028 amending SCC 2.12.070 increase by one (1) the number of judges in Cascade Division. Pursuant to RCW 3.34.100, the county legislative authority shall fill all vacancies by appointment. The Council announced the vacancy on April 26, 2023 and requested interested parties submit a resume and letter of interest by May 17th. Council received applications from two individuals who met the qualifications set forward in RCW 3.34.060. On May 31, 2023, Council selected two candidates to move forward to the interview stage of the appointment process. Interviews for this vacancy are set for June 14, 2023. The effective date of the appointment is July 24, 2023.
