PURPOSE: Reconvey Sky Valley Sportsman’s Park back to DNR
BACKGROUND: In 2011, DNR conveyed approximately 146 acres for “Sky Vally Sportsman’s Park,” for use by Snohomish County as a public park and shooting range. The property is located on the Sultan Basin Road, northeast of the City of Sultan, within Section 10, Township 28 North, Range 8 East, W.M., in Snohomish County. From 2012 to 2019, Snohomish County worked through its site feasibility culminating into a Critical Area Reconnaissance Report. Through the Critical Area Study, a very large and high-quality wetland was evaluated in the middle of the property, effectively making the parcel unsuitable for the intended shooting range. DNR is requesting reconveyance of the original 146 acres and deed returned pursuant to RCW 79.22.300 “Procedure-Reconveyance back when use ceases.” Snohomish County would like to oblige to the DNR’s request and is asking Council approval of the same. This will save time and money to maintain the large parcel of property that is no longer useful for the original purposes intended.
