PURPOSE: The purpose of adopting a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is to be eligible for Federal funding to reduce wildfire risk and to be included in the Federal prioritization of fuels treatment projects as specified in the 2003 Healthy Forests Restoration Act.
BACKGROUND: The CWPP was developed in collaboration with 50 community partners and approved by the Department of Natural Resources, the WA State Forester and the Snohomish County Fire Chiefs Association. The creation of the CWPP was prompted by a request from the Snohomish County Fire Chiefs Association to coordinate the development of a countywide plan that includes risk reduction strategies across jurisdictions and tribes, special purpose districts, non-profits, public agencies, and private timber companies. The plan also includes analysis of wildfire risk within the County and the establishment of best practices for wildfire mitigation and preparedness.
