PURPOSE: A motion of the County Council authorizing execution of Professional Services Agreement with Melting Rock, LLC for SR-530 Slide Memorial art sculptures.
BACKGROUND: The Division of Parks and Recreation is constructing the SR 530 Slide Memorial in honor of the tragic landslide that occurred at the site in 2014. The conceptual and final designs for the SR 530 Slide Memorial included many artistic sculptural elements and review of the artwork concepts has been approved and requested by the community. The Snohomish County Arts Commission led a competitive art application process and selected Tsovinar Muradyan, of Melting Rock, LLC, to be the preferred artist for three sculptural elements of the SR 530 Slide Memorial: the Beacon, the Responder's Sculpture, and twenty six (26) Individual Memorial Panels. Funding for the SR 530 Slide Memorial is included in the adopted 2021-2026 Snohomish County Capital Improvement Program. Parks staff negotiated the attached artwork contract for the design, construction and installation of the artwork needed to fulfill the sculptural scope of the memorial project.
