PURPOSE: Approval of Motion which will provide for Solid Waste tip fee abatement for citizens with flood damaged household materials related to the flood event of December 2023
BACKGROUND: December 6, 2023, Executive Dave Somers issued a proclamation of emergency in Snohomish County due to regional flooding. The Solid Waste Division and Executive Office requests to implement the voucher program which allows residents with flood-damaged materials to discard them at no charge at Solid Waste Facilities. SCC 7.41.022 allows the Executive to waive fees for up to 30 days under a State or Federally declared emergency. Acceptable flood damaged goods from residences includes: carpets, mattresses, clothing, furniture, water-soaked plasterboard, appliances (except refrigerators and freezers), oil-based paints, and small amounts of household hazardous waste.
