PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Joy Castillo to the Developmental Disabilities Citizen Advisory Board.
BACKGROUND: The Developmental Disabilities Citizen Advisory Board is comprised of citizens who serve in an advisory capacity to the Developmental Disability staff of the Snohomish County Human Services Department. The Board meets monthly, and is comprised of up to 15 members, drawing from all areas of the county and a range of backgrounds, including family members, individuals with developmental disabilities, professionals, and advocates.
Joy Castillo resides in Council District 2 and has 22 years working in public education.
Joy Castillo is invested in the meaningful inclusion of all residents, especially the most historically underserved, isolated or under supported.
Joy has a Master's in Education, is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, has a Superintendent Certification and is currently pursuing a Doctorate.
Joy, additionally, works with adults who were formerly incarcerated, unhoused and are recovering from co-occurring disorders.
Joy Castillo is not a member of any other County board or commission.
Joy Castillo is recommended for an initial three-year term upon appointment
