PURPOSE: Motion transmitting to the Snohomish County Auditor amendments to the Snohomish County Charter proposed by the Snohomish County Charter Review Commission
BACKGROUND: Snohomish County is one of seven charter counties in the State of Washington. The Snohomish County Charter was adopted in 1980 and first amended in 1986. The County Charter may, by public vote, be amended every ten years. In 2025, Snohomish County voters elected a Charter Review Commission composed of fifteen members, three from each Council District. On May 27, 2026, the Charter Review Commission voted to submit FIVE propositions to the public for the November 2026 ballot. Per Snohomish County Charter Article 8, Section 8.60, the commission may propose amendments to the charter by filing such proposed amendments with the county council who shall submit the amendment(s) to the officer in charge of holding elections. Attached is a May 27, 2026, letter stating that the commission is transmitting and filing with the County Council for submission to the officer in charge of holding elections, FIVE propositions that that are being proposed by the Commission to voters at the November 2026 general election. The Council Office received the letter on May 28, 2026. Also attached is a motion directing the clerk of the council to transmit to the county auditor the proposed charter amendments.
