PURPOSE: To authorize the County Executive to sign Contract Number 23-63333-124 with the Washington State Department of Commerce approving an interagency agreement providing funding assistance authorized by the State Legislature. The funding, disbursed in the form of a grant, supports a climate change vulnerability and risk assessment, policy review, and gap assessment to inform the new Climate Change Element of the County’s comprehensive plan.
BACKGROUND: Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5092 provided funding to the Washington State Department of Commerce (“Commerce”) to initiate a multiyear project that would develop guidance for counties and cities to address climate change issues within their comprehensive plans. This Commerce grant contract provides a no-match funding of $99,168 for a vulnerability and risk assessment for the County to incorporate climate change resilience into its comprehensive plan.
