PURPOSE: Approve and authorize the County Executive to execute the Washington State Department of Commerce Community Services Special Initiatives Unit grant agreement.
BACKGROUND: In 2024 the Washington State Legislature amended the Commerce Department's budget to include funding for the following purpose: General fund - state appropriation for the fiscal year 2025 is provided solely for Snohomish County Human Services to provide technical assistance and contract with a nonprofit to support youth, parents and families with school-based collaboration and social activities for youth.
The Washington State Department of Commerce Community Services Division Special Initiatives Unit has awarded Snohomish County Human Services Department grant funds in the amount of $593,750 for LGBTQIA Youth Support. The grant contract scope of work stipulates that Snohomish County Human Services will contract with the Community Foundation of Snohomish County to support capacity building activities for GLOBE to support youth, parents, and families with school-based collaboration, and social activities for youth.
This Grant Agreement is for the period of July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, in the amount of $593,750. This agreement was not included in the Grant Workplan for 2024 thus requiring Council Approval.
