PURPOSE: Authorize an MOU for Snohomish County to participate as a Cooperating Agency relating to the preparation of the 2022 North Cascades Ecosystem Grizzly Bear Restoration Plan/Environmental Impact Statement

 

BACKGROUND: The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and National Park Services (NPS) are jointly preparing an Environmental Impact Statement under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to determine how to restore grizzly bears in the North Cascades Ecosystem which project area extends into portions of Snohomish County.  Snohomish, Okanogan, Whatcom and Skagit Counties sent a joint letter on May 8, 2023 requesting Cooperating Agency status which was offered by the FWS and NPS on December 15, 2023.  This MOU formalizes Snohomish County’s position as a cooperating agency.  The Snohomish County Director of Conservation and Natural Resources is listed as the County’s primary point of contact.
