Executive/Council Action Form (ECAF)
ITEM TITLE:
Title
Motion 25-392, approving Release and Indemnity Agreement for transfer of Sheriff’s Office K9-Sully
body
DEPARTMENT: Sheriff’s Office
ORIGINATOR: Pauline Sanders
EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Approved by Ken Klein 8/19/25
PURPOSE: Agreement for Transfer of Police Service Dog - Sully
• BACKGROUND: The Sheriff’s Office uses trained police dogs to assist in fulfilling its mission.
• From time to time, these dogs live past their useful life as police K-9 and are retired.
• Sometimes, County employees or retired County employees, as in this case, offer to accept the dog and be responsible for its care, condition and actions after it is delivered.
• K-9 Sully is being retired from service with the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force.
• This agreement provides for liability protection for the County after the sale or transfer.
• Since K-9 Sully is considered personal property of the County, and there is no provision in the County Code that allows sale or transfer of personal property to a County employee, this agreement must be approved by Council.
