PURPOSE: Appoint Cassie Franklin to the Sound Transit Board of Directors to serve a 4-year term.
BACKGROUND: The appointment of Sound Transit board members is specified in the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) enabling legislation. It states that each member of the board, except the Secretary of Transportation, shall be: (a) an elected official who serves on the legislative authority of a city or as a mayor of a city within the boundaries of the authority; or (b) on the legislative authority of the county, if fifty percent of the population of the legislative official’s district is within the authority boundaries; or (c) a county executive from a member county within authority within the authority boundaries. County Executive Dave Somers is pleased to recommend appointment of Cassie Franklin, Mayor of the City of Everett, to serve a four-year term on the Sound Transit Board of Directors, beginning January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2025. Through her work in the community as well as being an elected official, Ms. Franklin brings valuable skills to the work of the Sound Transit Board of Directors.
