PURPOSE: Ongoing compliance with RCW 84.34, enacted by the state legislature to “maintain, preserve, conserve and otherwise continue in existence adequate open space lands for the production of food, fiber and forest crops, and to assure the use and enjoyment of natural resources and scenic beauty for the economic and social well-being of the state and its citizens” and that “assessment practices must be so designed as to permit the continued availability of open space lands for these purposes.”
BACKGROUND: Applicant no longer meets the requirements for Designated Forestland as the parcel is no longer being used to grow and harvest timber. The applicant seeks reclassification from Designated Forestland to Open Space Land - General for 5 of 6 acres, for which application has been made. The current use of the subject property conforms to the requirements of the open Space Land - General classification for assessment purposes.
