PURPOSE: Ongoing compliance with RCW 84.34, enacted by the state legislature to “maintain, preserve, conserve and otherwise continue in existence adequate open space lands for the production of food, fiber and forest crops, and to assure the use and enjoyment of natural resources and scenic beauty for the economic and social well-being of the state and its citizens” and that “assessment practices must be so designed as to permit the continued availability of open space lands for these purposes.”
BACKGROUND: This parcel has not historically been classified and applicants currently seek new classification in the Open Space General - Land category for 7.9 allowable of the 8.9 acres in this parcel. According to the critical areas layers available in the Assessor’s office, the affected area consists nearly entirely of steep slopes, wetlands, and flood hazard areas along the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River. Based upon the data available, the current use and potential use of the property meet the assessment criteria for classification.
