PURPOSE: Motion to approve County Executive to sign funding contract with Washington State Department of Agriculture for Spartina removal.
BACKGROUND: Snohomish County Noxious Weed Control Board’s mission is to serve as responsible stewards of Snohomish County by protecting and preserving the land and resources from the degrading impact of noxious weeds. Spartina was designated as a Class A noxious weed by the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board. The County has a responsibility to lead the effort to eradicate Spartina to prevent the degradation of shoreline and estuarine habitat. The Washington State Department of Agriculture has provided $100,000 to be used from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027 to the County, with no local match required. This is the agreement to accept these funds which were not included in the SWM Grant work plan.
