PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Shawnti Johnson to the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.

 

BACKGROUND: The Children’s Commission was created to advise the County on “issues of health, safety and social services for infants, young children and youth in the community.” It is composed of  25 members, including at least two youth commissioners. Three members are appointed from each council district, while the remaining ten at-large appointees may reside anywhere within the county.  Commissioners serve four-year terms with the exception of youth commissioners, who serve one-year terms. Commissioners may not serve more than three consecutive terms. The Snohomish County Children’s Commission currently has 12 members and 13 vacancies.  

                     Ms. Johnson resides in Council District 4
                     Ms. Johnson is currently a social worker and Teaching Associate with the University of Washington
                     Ms. Johnson’s expertise is in child safety, family reunification and child public welfare
                     Ms. Johnson is not a member of any other County committee or council
                     Ms. Johnson is recommended for a first four-year term upon appointment
