DEPARTMENT: Facilities and Fleet
ORIGINATOR: Carl Jorgensen
EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION: Ken Klein 5/1/24
PURPOSE: To improve degraded salmon habitat conditions in the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River; and address the cumulative loss of habitat quality and quantity in the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River caused primarily by historical and recent human impacts. The simultaneous execution and recording of the necessary temporary easements (four in total) will allow Snohomish County to begin the restoration project.
BACKGROUND: Salmon habitat in this portion of the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River has seen consistent Salmon habitat depletion the past few decades. This project is to accomplish restoration by increasing pool frequency and edge habitat diversity and increasing the amount of complex woody cover at low-and-high flows through the addition of wood and stable log jams. This project will benefit the salmon adults and juveniles as well as support recovery of the salmon populations.
