PURPOSE: Appoint individual to vacancy on Stillaguamish Flood Control District governing body
BACKGROUND: The Stillaguamish Flood District is considered a special district under RCW 85.38.010(4)(f). The County officially received noticed of resignation from the individual serving in Position 2, Chuck Hazelton, in March 2025. Additionally, the districts governing body forwarded a recommended replacement for the vacated seat, Jim Anderson. Under RCW, the legislative authority of each county is responsible for appointing “a district voter to serve until a person is elected, at the next special district general election occurring sixty or more days after the vacancy has occurred, to serve the remainder of the unexpired term”. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Surface Water Management Division forwarded Council staff the necessary information regarding the vacancies and proposed appointees from the district and verified the individuals are eligible to serve.
