PURPOSE: Authorize acquisition of .48 acres of real property adjacent to Riverscene Park in Granite Falls.
BACKGROUND: The landowner adjacent to Riverscene Park on the South Fork Stillaguamish River approached the County in 2021 with a request sell the property to the County for assessed value. The Parks Division worked to secure funding for the acquisition, which was delayed. Subsequently, MSR Foundation approached the County with a request to acquire land to offset the tree clearing associated with development of urban residences in Snohomish County. Mitigation was not required, but the desire to offset the developer’s footprint by planting trees for permanent protection led to the Donation Agreement attached to this Motion. The developer acquired the property with the intent to donate the land to Snohomish County Parks for permanent conservation.
