DEPARTMENT:  Council

ORIGINATOR:  Ryan Countryman for CM Nehring

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  N/A

PURPOSE: Staff report for discussion

BACKGROUND: County code allows keeping of chickens as an incidental use to a home in any zone. In some contexts, raising chickens can also be an agricultural use or small animal husbandry. Noise complaints are common, but noise from poultry is often exempt from county noise control. Some developments have restrictive covenants against keeping chickens, but the county does not have authority to enforce covenants. Changes to county code may require input from both the Agricultural Advisory Board and Planning Commission.
