PURPOSE: To recommend the re-appointment of Sanika Kabbur to the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.

 

BACKGROUND: The Children’s Commission was created to advise the County on “issues of health, safety and social services for infants, young children and youth in the community.” It is composed of  25 members, including at least two youth commissioners. Three members are appointed from each council district, while the remaining ten at-large appointees may reside anywhere within the county.  Commissioners serve four-year terms with the exception of youth commissioners, who serve one-year terms. Commissioners may not serve more than three consecutive terms. The Snohomish County Children’s Commission currently has 13 members and 12 vacancies.  

                     Ms. Kabbur resides in Council District 4
                     Ms. Kabbur is currently a high school student in the Northshore School District
                     Ms. Kabbur is active in student and community leadership activities with experience and interest in government functions
                     Ms. Kabbur is not a member of any other County committee or council
                     Ms. Kabbur is recommended for a second one-year term upon re-appointment
