PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Antonia Rice to the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.
BACKGROUND: The Children’s Commission was created to advise the County on “issues of health, safety and social services for infants, young children and youth in the community.” It is composed of 25 members, including at least two youth commissioners. Three members are appointed from each council district, while the remaining ten at-large appointees may reside anywhere within the county. Commissioners serve four-year terms with the exception of youth commissioners, who serve one-year terms. Commissioners may not serve more than three consecutive terms. The Snohomish County Children’s Commission currently has 14 members and 11 vacancies.
• Ms. Rice resides in Council District 4
• Ms. Rice has international educational program, and project management experience and is involved locally in youth sports and parks programming
• Ms. Rice is not a member of any other County committee or council
• Ms. Rice is recommended for a first, four-year term upon appointment
