ITEM TITLE:

Title

Motion 26-340, approving Release and Indemnity Agreement for transfer of Sheriff’s Office K-9 Knox

body

DEPARTMENT:  Sheriff’s Office

ORIGINATOR:  Clint Korhonen

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Approved by Alessandra Szebenyl 8/19/26

PURPOSE: Agreement for Transfer of Police K9 Knox

BACKGROUND: Police Service Dog Knox has lived past his useful life as a Police K9 and is going to be retired on September 15th, 2026.  His handler has offered to accept the dog and be responsible for its care, condition, and actions after it is delivered.  This agreement provides for liability protection for the County after the transfer of the dog.  Since K-9 Knox is considered personal property of the County, and there is no provision in the County Code that allows the sale or transfer of personal property to a County employee, this agreement must be approved by Council
