PURPOSE: Ongoing compliance with RCW 84.34, enacted by the state legislature to “maintain, preserve, conserve and otherwise continue in existence adequate open space lands for the production of food, fiber and forest crops, and to assure the use and enjoyment of natural resources and scenic beauty for the economic and social well-being of the state and its citizens” and that “assessment practices must be so designed as to permit the continued availability of open space lands for these purposes.”
BACKGROUND: This parcel has not historically been classified and applicants currently seek new classification in the Open Space General - Land category for 9.05 of the 10.05 acres in this parcel.
There is some agricultural activity on the land, but it is confined to areas that are interspersed with non-agricultural areas, including short rotation hardwoods (Christmas trees) interspersed among other wooded areas. There also appear to be some at least seasonal wetlands areas of note.
Applicant initially applied for the Farm & Agricultural Land classification but withdrew that application and initiated this one in its stead upon Assessor recommendation.
The current use of the subject property is compatible with the requirements of the Open Space General - Land classification for assessment purposes.
