PURPOSE: To obtain the Executive’s signature on the PAO’s application for the SFY 2026 Victim Witness Assistance DV Specific Grant Program.
BACKGROUND: The Office of Crime Victims Advocacy in the WA State Department of Commerce notified counties on Feb. 4, of a new grant program to help support victi/witness assistance efforts, specifically in DV cases. The formula-based five-month (February through June 2026) grant would provide up to $41,317.00 in grant funds to the PAO to support advocates assisting victims and witnesses in cases involving DV. While this unexpected grant program has a very short term, the grant funds are greatly needed for the PAO’s witness assistance efforts in Fund 118 as the revenue sources supporting this fund have been declining for years. At the same time, the grant funds will ease some pressure on the General Fund to support our team of advocates. The PAO will work with Finance to create revenue and expenditure DACs for this grant, if needed. In the meantime, the DACs listed in the Fiscal Implications section are those currently in use for the annual formula-based Victim Witness Assistance Grant that the PAO receives from DOC. The deadline to submit applications is Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The PAO appreciates the Executive’s quick response to this request.
