Title

Motion 24-481, approving a budget transfer from Non-Departmental Fund 130 Grant Control to Prosecuting Attorney’s Fund 130 for a Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Program

body

DEPARTMENT:  Prosecuting Attorney

ORIGINATOR:  Ellen Hagey

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Ken Klein 11/20/24

PURPOSE: To approve a budget transfer of $20,444 in Fund 130 to fund the beginning of the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Program.

BACKGROUND: The Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) is awarding the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (PAO) a grant of $225,852.50 grant to establish a Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (TSRP) Program.  The contract is attached to this ECAF, as reference.  The TSRP is designed to build the capacity of deputy prosecuting attorneys (DPAs) and others involved in the criminal justice system to successfully prosecute DUI cases, investigate DUI cases, enforce existing laws, and reduce impaired driving in Washington State.  To accomplish this, the grant provides funding to support an experienced DPA who will offer training, education, and resources to other DPAs, law enforcement officers, judges, probation staff, legislators, and hearing examiners across the state.  The grant term is December 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025. The PAO is requesting a budget transfer of $20,444 to cover the expenditures for the current budget year.
