ITEM TITLE:

Title

Motion 26-181, authorizing the County Executive to execute Contract Amendment No. 2 with Smith Fire Systems, Inc. per RFP-027-21BC for fire suppression system services at Snohomish County Airport

body

DEPARTMENT:  Airport Fire

ORIGINATOR:  Joshua Cole

EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Approved by Kent Patton 4/23/26

PURPOSE: To authorize the County Executive to execute Amendment No. 2 with Smith Fire Systems, Inc., pursuant to RFP-027-21BC for Fire Suppression System Services at Snohomish County Airport.

BACKGROUND:

Snohomish County Airport requires Fire Suppression System services including periodic inspection and testing, prescribed reporting elements, maintenance, and repair service for fire pumps and sprinklers and related equipment at various Airport locations to ensure the protection of County-owned facilities at Snohomish County Airport.

Snohomish County and Washington State Fire Code require periodic inspection and testing of fire protection and life safety systems, and it is a requirement of many Airport lease agreements to maintain these systems.

Smith Fire Systems, Inc. (“Smith Fire”) was previously selected as the most qualified candidate per RFP-027-21BC per Motion 22-032.

Upon inspection by Smith Fire, several Airport hangars are in need of more extensive repairs than originally anticipated, due to aging and obsolete systems.

Amendment No. 1 for a contract increase of $60,000 for a total not to exceed $120,000 was signed on July 22, 2022.

Amendment No. 2 provides a contract increase of $60,000 for a total contract not to exceed (NTE) $180,000.
