EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Approve - Lacey Harper

 

PURPOSE: To recommend the appointment of Lou Ann Carter to the Snohomish County Council on Aging.

 

BACKGROUND: The Snohomish County Council on Aging exists to advise, assist, and advocate for older persons and those adults with disabilities in Snohomish County by keeping the County Executive and other elected officials apprised of the concerns and needs of the older populations; and assisting and guiding the work of the Long Term Care and Aging group in fulfilling its stated missions, supporting ongoing evaluation of program services, and policy involved in the implementation of the Snohomish County Area Plan on Aging.

Lou Ann Carter has a wealth of knowledge and experience due to her 24 years working as a social worker for the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). She also served as a supervisor for a skilled nursing facility and a residential unit. Ms. Carter has also dedicated her time volunteering as a support group facilitator with the Alzheimer’s Association of Washington. Ms. Carter has also served as a licensed practical nurse. Through her experiences, Ms. Carter has been a an engaged community member, a trustworthy source of learning, and a helpful volunteer. Her mother also once served on this very same board. Lou Ann Carter resides in Council District #2 and is applying for an initial three-year term commencing upon appointment.

Ms. Carter does not serve on any other county boards or commissions.
