EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDATION:  Approved (Lacey Harper 8/20/24)

PURPOSE: To authorize approval of Professional Services Agreement AGRI01-24 with Innov8 Ag Solutions Inc. for Agriculture Technology Improvements.

BACKGROUND: Initiated in 2021, the Snohomish County Agriculture Technology Improvements project marks a significant collaboration between public and private entities. Its primary aim is to establish essential infrastructure for the purpose of experimenting with cutting-edge technology pertinent to agriculture. This amalgamation of technology, data, and application has already begun reshaping the landscape of agriculture in Snohomish County, bolstering its resilience for local growers. A success since the project's inception is the substantial reduction in water consumption reported by a local farm, ranging from 50% to 75%. This achievement is directly attributed to the deployment of soil moisture sensors, which have provided invaluable decision-making data to farmers. Furthermore, the utilization of advanced soil mapping techniques has empowered farmers to adopt precision nutrient application methods, curbing excessive nutrient usage. Not only does this translate to cost savings for farmers, but it also mitigates the risk of potential nutrient runoff, thereby fostering a more sustainable agricultural ecosystem. In 2023 Snohomish County Surface Water Management was awarded a Floodplains by Design grant (SEAFBD-2325-SnCoCN-00046) that included funding for the Office of Agriculture to enhance and expand the project started in 2021. That funding is intended to be spent by June 2027.
