PURPOSE: To fill a vacant position within the Airport Commission.
BACKGROUND: The Airport Commission was established by Ordinance 17-003 on March 29, 2017. The Airport Commission acts as an advisory board to the Executive. The Airport Commission is composed of thirteen (13) members consisting of one person from each council district, three persons from the airport tenant community, three persons from the business community, and two persons from the county at large. Mr. Gregg Ortega, who represented Council District #1 on the Airport Commission, had his term expire in Q1 of 2026. Mr. Miles VC Hickey was the one (1) applicant received for the vacant position. Mr. Hickey is an active pilot and a member of the Cascade Flyers, a private nonprofit flying club based at Snohomish County Paine Field Airport (PAE). As a committed participant in the general aviation community, he has a direct interest in the airport’s long-term future. He will apply his professional experience in long-range infrastructure planning with public agencies to benefit both the airport and the residents of District 1. Additionally, Mr. Hickey has seen PAE balance commercial service growth, aerospace industry needs, with a thriving GA community and would like to ensure decisions continue to serve all three for the long term. If approved, Mr. Hickey would serve a four-year term on the board and may be reappointed for a second term by Council.
