PURPOSE: To seek County Council’s appointment of one citizen, nominated by the County Executive, to fill a vacancy for a Council District #1 representative on the Snohomish County Parks Advisory Board
BACKGROUND: Click or tap here to enter text.The Parks Advisory Board was created through SCC 2.16 to assist the director of the department of conservation and natural resources and the parks division manager in reviewing and recommending policies relating to parks, playgrounds or other recreational facilities. The advisory board is composed of 11 members, of which five (5) members are appointed from the council districts and reside in the district from which they are appointed and six (6) members serve at-large.
On February 1, 2021, Council District #1 member, Robert Putnam, notified the Parks Division that he would be resigning from his term on the Park Advisory Board. Parks Department staff notified Councilmember Nehring of the vacancy and he identified Mr. Meyers as a potential candidate. Park Advisory Board staff and Director Tom Teigen met with Mr. Meyers to discuss the position and Mr. Meyers applied for the position. Mr. Meyers additionally attended a Park Advisory Board meeting to observe and verify that his interests aligned with Board responsibilities. If approved, Mr. Meyers will begin serving his first term with an expiration date of January 15, 2023.
