PURPOSE: DEA Registration
BACKGROUND: On February 2, 2024, The Federal Register/Vol. 89, No.23 was updated to include facilities to be able to treat and manage those with opiate use disorder with methadone if they are registered with the DEA as a hospital/clinic. With this update, once with register with the DEA, we will be able to induct our patients with methadone to secondarily treat opiate use disorder. We have the opportunity to be the first jail in the state to accomplish this. We could pave the way and set the standard for other jails in the state and across the country. We are always looking or innovative ways to offer treatment to those we have in custody and better our communities. It was recommended by our DPA, George Marsh, that our Executive Director sign off on this registration. Registration is conducted online at this website: (<https://apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/webforms2/spring/main?execution=e1s3>). Looking to complete the Hospital/Clinic form 224a. We have attached a completed sample application for reference. Our Health Services Administrator, Amanda Ray, has also offered to sit with someone to guide them through the registration. We don’t believe it will take more than 15 minutes to complete the registration.
